Other than GK Nick Rimando, RSL just seemed to be off tonight. Rimando made some critical saves to keep things close, but it wasn’t RSL’s night, especially not for FW Álvaro Saborío. Sabo had several good chances, but just wasn’t able to convert on any of them.

The action got started early with a goal from Colorado in the 5th minute. A ball from the left side was held up in the box by FW Edson Buddle who was able to slot it through to MF Atiba Harris who put it past Rimando for the only goal of the match. It seemed the RSL equalizer would soon follow after a penalty was called on Colorado in the 8th minute. Sabo’s penalty kick was denied by Colorado GK Clint Irwin’s outstretched left arm. It was the first time that Sabo had missed a penalty kick for RSL in 13 tries.

Sabo had another good shot in the second half from the top of the box that was also blocked, and three wide open headers that he wasn’t able to get on frame, including one in the 93rd minute. Any other night, and Sabo would have likely walked away with a hat trick. That would have been a nice way to end the week for Sabo after re-signing with RSL through 2015. This match also marked the 100th appearance for the RSL forward. To put a positive spin on it, I’d much rather have Sabo in the match, getting chances and not converting, than not getting any chances. Look for Sabo to bounce back in the next match as RSL travels to play Vancouver on Saturday, April 13th. Click here to follow the match coverage next week.
