The match at Rio Tinto Saturday night was an entertaining, wide open affair that saw RSL come away with three points in a 1-0 victory. The action started early as both teams came out shooting. RSL rookie F Olmes Garcia almost had his second MLS goal in the 5th minute with a shot from the top of the box that hit the crossbar after deflecting off the Chivas defender. Two minutes later Garcia sent a cross in to an open Grabavoy who was unable to head it on frame. Shots continued to come from RSL, and it looked as if they would likely score several goals. If not for the woodwork and the outstanding performance of Chivas GK Dan Kennedy, RSL could have been up 3 goals in the first half.

A goal would come for RSL in the 53′ as Garcia played the ball to Sabo on the right side, who sent his cross in for MF Javier Morales who headed it down and in to the left side of the goal. One goal is all it would take for RSL to secure the victory thanks to another brilliant performance from RSL GK Nick Rimando. A first half corner kick from Chivas glanced off the arm of Grabavoy. A handball was called and a penalty kick awarded to Chivas. Chivas MF Edgar Mejia took the shot and fired it to the right side of the goal. Rimando guessed right and made a world class diving save on the ball. Rimando quickly sprang to his feet as the rebound was settle by another Chivas player, and a barrage of shots followed. The RSL defense held strong and eventually the ball was cleared away. Rimando was awarded the MLS Save Of The Week for a diving save made in last weeks match against Vancouver. Expect Rimando to receive the Save Of The Week award for this one as well.

With this victory, RSL moves up to 3rd place in the Western Conference standings with a 3-3-2 record and 11 points. Chivas USA drops to 4th place with a 3-3-1 record and 10 points. RSL will be at it again next week as they host rival LA Galaxy (3-1-2, 11 pts) at Rio Tinto Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 pm MDT. Fans can purchase tickets online or by calling (801) 727-2700.
