It wasn’t the prettiest performance tonight for RSL, but anytime RSL scores four goals in a match, the odds are good that the result will be a positive one. Things got started early with a goal from MF Ned Grabavoy in the 4th minute. The score would stay at 1-0 for the remainder of the first half.
RSL scored again early in the second half on a goal from F Joao Plata in the 48th minute, giving the RSL forward his first goal of the season. Chivas USA continued to fight and would get one back in the 55th minute, on a header from MF Jorge Villafaña. Chivas USA continued to press and for a moment it seemed that the equalizer was just a matter of time. It nearly came in the 57th minute on a blast inside the box from Chivas F Jose Correa. RSL GK Nick Rimando came up big yet again, and denied the Chivas forward from getting the equalizer.
RSL F Robbie Findley scored in the 78th minute, and Grabavoy would get a stoppage time goal, his second of the match, to give RSL the 4-1 victory. RSL ends the three-game road trip with a record of 2-1-0, 6 points. The team has to feel very good about earning six road points in three games. RSL takes on the Chicago Fire (2-7-1, 7 points) at Rio Tinto this Saturday, May 25th at 7 pm. Tickets for the match can be purchased online, or by calling 801-727-2700.
