A moment of brilliance was provided by RSL rookie F Olmes Garcia who came on for F Joao Plata in the 55th minute. Garcia received the ball at the top left corner of the box from MF Javier Morales, and hit a beautiful curling shot that sailed by Vancouver GK Joe Cannon into the upper right corner of the goal. It was Garcia’s first goal of his MLS career.

The Man of the Match award has to go to GK Nick Rimando who kept RSL in it with another outstanding performance. RSL could have easily been down two or three goals in the first half. Unfortunately there was only one save that Rimando was unable to make after a penalty kick was awarded to Vancouver in the 83rd minute for a handball in the box on D Nat Borchers who slipped and fell on the ball. Footing issues were a common occurrence throughout the match. After such a great performance from Rimando, it would have been fitting for him to finish it off with a great penalty save. However, it was not meant to be as the Vancouver F Camilo tied the match with a well struck kick from the spot.

RSL returns to Rio Tinto next week to take on Chivas USA (3-2-1). Tickets for the match can be purchased online, or by calling (801) 727-2700. Complete match coverage can be followed here.
