Fans gathered tonight at the Salt Lake City International Airport to welcome home their team upon defeating the Portland Timbers and advancing on to the MLS Cup. Although the flight was delayed 2 hours, that didn’t stop a crowd of claret and cobalt loyal from giving their team the warm welcome they deserve.
“They deserve it”, said one fan, “to go up to Portland in a hostile environment and do what they did, it’s the least we can do to say thanks.” About 100 plus fans showed up tonight and the players rewarded them with autographs and lots of photos.
The team will spend the next week and a half at home preparing for Sporting Kansas City who they will face in the MLS Cup Final held on Saturday Dec. 7th, 2013. Kickoff is set for 2:00 pm MST. Although it’s too early to predict the weather, let’s hope it’s not as worse as last Saturday when the match between SKC and HOU became the coldest MLS match on record where the thermometer dropped to a frigid 22 degrees.
In other news, the 2014 schedule was released by the league’s front office today and RSL will open the 2014 season on the road vs the LA Galaxy on Saturday March 8, 2014. The home opener will be 2 weeks later on March 22, 2014 when they host, you guessed it, the LA Galaxy. The full 2014 schedule can be seen on mlssoccer.com
